Cherneka Johnson vs Dina Thorslund – Big Fight Preview & Predictions

-

Cherneka Johnson makes the latest defence of her undisputed bantamweight crown against former world champion, Dina Thorslund in Orlando on Saturday.

Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions promote Johnson vs Thorslund, with the bout aired on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and on ESPN+ in the USA.

Johnson (19-2, 8 KOs) moved down to bantamweight after losing her IBF super bantamweight title in a unanimous decision loss to Ellie Scotney in 2023.

The Australian has recorded four straight victories since and became undisputed champion with a ninth round stoppage of Shurretta Metcalf last July.

The 31-year-old made a successful first defence of her belts in December, outpointing Amanda Galle in Miami.

Thorslund (24-0, 9 KOs) looks to begin a new reign as a bantamweight champion, having previously been a unified titlist at 118lbs.

The 32-year-old also held a world title at super bantamweight and moved up to featherweight to take the WBC interim belt in January.

The unbeaten Dane moves down two weight classes to challenge Johnson.

Prediction: Johnson is a narrow favourite with the bookmakers, but the pick is for Thorslund to produce the upset and become the new champion by decision.

Robinson clashes with Thibeault

In the second world title meeting on the card, Desley Robinson defends her IBF and WBO middleweight titles against Tamm Thibeault.

Robinson (12-3, 4 KOs) added the WBO strap to her IBF belt with a unanimous decision win over Chloe Chaos last April and has defended twice since.

Thibeault (4-0, 3 KOs) is set to fight for a world title in just her fifth professional bout having had a decorated amateur career, which saw her claim World Championship and Commonwealth gold medals.

Prediction: Thibeault can dethrone Robinson with a stoppage victory.

Remaining Undercard

Dainier Pero (13-0, 10 KOs), the younger brother of heavyweight Lenier Pero, should halt Aleem Whitfield (10-1, 6 KOs) in their heavyweight showdown.

The aforementioned Shurretta Metcalf (15-5-1, 2 KOs) can continue her resurgence after defeat to Johnson by beating Amanda Galle (12-1-1, 1 KO) on points in their super flyweight meeting.

Puerto Rican bantamweight, Krystal Rosado (9-1, 2 KOs) should see off Alondra Yamile Hernandez Mendoza (11-2, 2 KOs) by decision and Puerto Rican featherweight, Jan Paul Rivera-Pizarro (15-0, 7 KOs) can stop Abraham Perfecto Valdez (14-2, 9 KOs).

20-year-old light flyweight prospect, Sa’Rai Brown-El (1-0) can outpoint Sheyla Moreno Castillo (5-0-1, 1 KO) to secure her second professional win.

At middleweight, Sebastian Juarez (11-0, 8 KOs) will likely need the distance to overcome Rance Ward (9-6-1, 2 KOs), while Angelo Hernandez (1-0, 1 KO) should stop Jose Fernandez (2-1, 2 KOs) in their featherweight meeting.

Lightweight prospect, Jadden Addison (2-0, 1 KO) can also win by stoppage against Dionne Ruvalcaba (2-2, 1 KO).
