Claressa Shields returned to middleweight for the first time since 2023, and she picked up where she left off by winning back the WBC and WBA titles in a sixth-round stoppage win over Kaye Scott in Atlanta.
Scott seemed out of her depth with Shields throughout.
Shields (19-0, KO4) had previously reigned as undisputed champion at the weight before dabbling in MMA and then making the jump to heavyweight, where she also cleaned out that division, her most recent win a points success over Franchon Crews-Dezurn in February, where ‘The GWOAT’ won all ten rounds on all three cards in defence of her many belts.
Scott (5-2-1, KO0) looked ripe for the picking for Shields, with the Aussie inexperienced, but she was coming off a majority decision win against Olivia Curry that won her the WBC and WBA crowns in December last year.
Shields looked for the stoppage from the off, and landed some hard hooks in the first round, with a nice overhand right ending the session.
Shields upped the ante in the second, connecting with nearly a dozen unanswered punches, and a right hand drove the champion backwards, with Scott also sporting a huge lump on her face from the early damage.
Shields decided to leave her hands down as she continued her dominance, and she reigned punches in on Scott that the visitor simply had no answer to through rounds three and four.
Scott showed more ambition in the fifth, and did land towards the end of the frame, but the end was nigh, and that came in the sixth.
Shields went combination-happy, and Scott couldn’t deal with the heat, a left hand shaking her to her boots, and she tottered to the ropes, and with only the ropes keeping her up, a knockdown was counted.
The end came swiftly after, as Shields unleashed a two-fisted salvo that forced Scott’s corner to throw the towel in for their charge.
Bernice Ferreira vs Caroline Veyre
On the undercard, Bernice Ferreira (11-0, KO4) added the WBC super featherweight title to her IBO strap, as Caroline Veyre (11-2, KO0) was thrown out in the eighth round of their contest due to excessive holding.
Veyre had already had points taken from her in rounds four and seven of the bout.
Remaining Undercard
At middleweight, Troy Isley (17-0, KO6) took a points win over ten rounds against Joseph Hicks (12-2, KO7). Isley got the nod by scores of 97-92 and 96-93 (twice).
In the other ten-round attractions, Atif Oberlton (17-0, KO14) remained unbeaten with a shutout points win over Roamer Alexis Angulo (29-5, KO24) at light heavyweight, and at super bantamweight, Ashelyann Lozada (5-0, KO1) took a landslide win on the cards against Paulette Cuesta (19-6-1, KO4).
In eight-rounders, Da’Velle Smith (15-0, KO10) took victory at super middleweight, as he halted Hakim Lopez (16-2, KO9) in six rounds, and Shannel Butler (9-0, KO3) stayed unbeaten with a points win against Marianela Ramirez (14-12-2, KO7) at featherweight.
In six-round action, Jaquan McElroy (8-0, KO2) won on points against Alexander Thiel (5-1, KO2) at super welterweight, and Daniel Mercado (2-0, KO2) won his super welterweight contest against Rahmel McKinley (1-5, KO0) in the opening round of their super welterweight meeting set for four.
