Skye Nicolson vs Mariah Turner – Big Fight Preview & Predictions

-

Skye Nicolson looks to close in on another world title shot when she defends her WBC interim super bantamweight crown against Mariah Turner in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Nicolson (15-1, 3 KOs) battles Turner (12-1, 6 KOs) at The Melbourne Pavilion, live on DAZN.

Nicolson’s reign as WBC featherweight world title came to an end when she was upset by Tiara Brown last March.

The 30-year-old responded by moving down in weight and has won three on the bounce, including two by stoppage.

The Australian southpaw overcame Yuliahn Luna Avila to win the WBC interim title in Stockton in December and looks to close in on a showdown against undisputed champion, Ellie Scotney with victory.

Nicolson makes a first defence of her WBC crown against compatriot Turner.

‘The Golden Girl’ claimed the Australian featherweight belt last June and has only been beaten once in her 13-fight career against Ellie Bouttell in 2024.

Prediction: Nicolson can show her levels here with a clear unanimous decision win.

Tupou (29-7, 20 KOs) has faced the likes of Joseph Parker and Malik Scott, losing to both and is coming off a fourth round stoppage defeat to Joseph Goodall last April.

Prediction: Teremoana can secure another early knockout.

Wyllie returns

Jake Wyllie looks to get back to winning ways when he faces Miles Zalewski in a lightweight clash.

Wyllie (18-2-1, 16 KOs) rose to prominence in a gutsy points defeat to George Kambosos Jr last March and had won two in a row, before coming up short in a split decision draw with Paul Fleming in December.

Zalewski (12-3, 10 KOs) ends a near three-year lay-off, stopped by Youssef Dib in nine rounds in his last outing.

Prediction: Wyllie should be too fresh and powerful for Zalewski and can stop his countryman.

Remaining Undercard

Andrew Hunt (11-0-1 6 KOs) should get the better of Benjamin Hussain (13-2, 8 KOs) by stoppage to claim the vacant IBF Inter-Continental super welterweight title.

Elsewhere, Jesse Bolt (3-0, 3 KOs) can remain perfect, but may need the distance to see off Faavesi Isaako (3-5, 2 KOs) at lightweight, while Chloe Chaos (7-2-1, 3 KOs) should overcome Arlene Blencowe (5-6, 2 KOs) on points in their super welterweight battle.

At super middleweight, Omar El-Abdallah (4-0, 3 kOs) should halt Alivereti Dodomo (7-8, 6 KOs) and Jonte Metaxas (2-0, 1 KO) can do the same against Troy Toleafoa (0-1).
